CASAA Reading Room Code of Conduct.  Please read carefully.

The Reading Room of the Center for the Arts and Symbolism of the Ancient Americas is a shared workspace. To make its use a more pleasant and productive experience for everyone, we ask that you observe the following rules:

  1. No spittin’.
  2. There is a small kitchen space with a mini-fridge for the preparation of stimulating beverages and the storage of food. Please do not eat or drink near the desktop computer or the Wacom tablet. Please clean up after yourself, and remove any personal food from the fridge before it starts to smell unwholesome.
  3. The Reading Room is intended primarily for research, writing, and imaging/illustration. Please keep your volume to a level which is respectful of others using the space, and of people in nearby offices and classrooms. Extended, personal conversations should be taken elsewhere if someone else is working in the Reading Room.
  4. Keys to the Reading Room are available to Affiliates from the Anthropology Office. They must not be copied, must be retained solely by the Affiliate, and must be returned to the office at the end of Affiliate status, including the transition from Student Affiliate to Alumnus. People not affiliated with CASAA should not be admitted to the Reading Room without permission from the Director.
  5. Whenever you are the last person to leave the Reading Room, even if you or someone else is expected to come back to it soon, it is important that you turn off all lights and lock the door behind you. The room should never be left unlocked and unoccupied.
  6. The Reading Room contains a library of books and other research materials for in-room use by Affiliates. These must not be removed from the Reading Room without the express permission of the Director. They should not be left out on tables, desks, etc. for an extended period, but reshelved when not actively needed.
  7. The Reading Room contains a desktop computer with an attached Wacom drafting tablet. These are meant mainly for imaging, illustration, and other computationally intensive tasks; Affiliates should use other devices for reading and writing when someone else needs this computer for its intended purpose. Please observe all Texas State cybersecurity guidelines and promptly report any problems with these devices to the Director and to Adam Clark.
  8. Affiliates assume sole responsibility for any personal items left in the Reading Room.
  9. At the Director’s sole discretion, an Affiliate may be disaffiliated from the Center for violation of these rules.
