M.A. Funding, Scholarships, and Financial Aid
Departmental and College Funding
Departmental Graduate Instructional Assistantships (GIA): Many of our incoming M.A. students receive partial funding (10 hour positions) through the Department of Anthropology’s GIA appointments. GIA appointments are evaluated based on a student's GPA, the number of students who have collectively been accepted, the number of positions allotted, and departmental needs. Please note: you do not need to do anything to apply for these GIA positions; you are automatically considered as part of each incoming class cohort.
Travel Funding: The Department of Anthropology, the College of Liberal Arts, and the Graduate College offer limited travel funding for M.A. students presenting the results of their research at professional conferences.
Faculty Funding: Occasionally, individual faculty members also have funds via grants, contracts, or projects to provide scholarships and other forms of funding to M.A. students. Discuss opportunities for this type of funding with your thesis mentor.
