C. Warren Hollister

C. Warren Hollister, professor of history at the University of California at Santa Barbara, received his bachelor of arts degree from Harvard and his master of arts and doctor of philosophy degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is a fellow of the Medieval Academy of America, the Royal Historical Society (London), and the Medieval Academy of Ireland, and has served as vice president for teaching of the American Historical Association, president of the Pacific Coast Conference on British Studies, visiting fellow of Merton College, Oxford, and visiting fellow of the Australian National University at Canberra.

Hollister is vice president (president-elect) of the North American Conference on British Studies, chairman of the program committee for the 1984 centennial meeting of the American Historical Association, chairman of the Medieval Committee, and president of the International Charles Homer Haskins Society on Anglo-Norman History.

Author of many books and scholarly articles on medieval history and co-author of a children's fantasy, Hollister has won Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Humanities, Fulbright, American Council of Learned Societies, and American Philosophical Society fellowships. He is also director of a $108,000 study, funded by NEH and based as UCSB, to create a computer data base for the Domesday Survey of A.D. 1068.

Among Hollister's other honors are the Triennial Book Prize of the Conference on British Studies, the E. Harris Harbison National Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Walter D. Love Prize for the best article in 1980 on British history or culture, and the UCSB Alumni Teacher of the Year Award for 1983.
