The LBJ Distinguished Lecture Series honors the legacy of one of Texas State University's most notable alums and the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson. From 1982 through 2020, the Lecture Series brought more than 40 speakers and leaders to the university to share their philosophies and experiences.

The series itself was originally President Johnson’s idea. In 1973, Johnson brought economic advisor Walter Heller to campus to discuss the national economy, initiating what he hoped would be the first of many. Sadly, Johnson would pass a few days later. But the idea remained alive.

Since then, speakers have brought the Bobcat community talks on music, poetry, politics, humor, journalism, foreign affairs, civil rights, history, and other engaging stories.
