Spirit Parade
Overview
Texas State’s Homecoming Spirit Parade, a newly revived Homecoming tradition, presents an opportunity for the TXST and San Marcos communities to unite and celebrate Homecoming.
The parade will showcase the Texas State Marching Band Drumline, Strutters, cheerleaders, Homecoming Royalty, and various parade entries from university departments and student organizations.

Parade Rules & Regulations
All parade participants must adhere to the following rules, regulations, and conditions:
Parade Route
The parade will start at 2:00 PM on Pickard St and N LBJ DR Bus Loop.
Participants can arrive starting at 12:00 PM to decorate their golf cart.
We ask that all participants arrive no later than 1:45 PM.
The route runs from N LBJ through campus making a right turn onto E Woods St and ending at the JCK parking lot.
Overview
- Supplies and tools for golf cart decorating will be available at the site: Painter’s tape, scissors, and homecoming promo items.
- Participants can bring anything additional to use decoration. Driver’s vision must not be impaired.
- NOTE: Duct tape cannot be used to tape anything to the golf cart. No painting the actual golf cart. Items can be pre-painted and attached to the cart. Standard four-seat golf cart dimensions are 10’ Length x 4.5’ Width.
- Parade participants may distribute candy or other items by handing them to spectators. Throwing candy, toys, or other objects is strictly prohibited due to the potential for serious injury. Please provide a walker to hand candy or any other items out. This will prevent small children from running in front of vehicles.
- Participants must pick up anything that falls off the golf cart during the parade route.
- Units must maintain a distance of 15 feet behind the preceding unit.
- No political notices, signs, or announcements allowed, unless you are sponsored by a campus organization representing similar interests.
- The consumption of alcohol or other illegal substances is strictly prohibited before and during the parade Anyone suspected of violating this policy will be asked to leave immediately.
- Parade officials have the authority to remove any parade entry for violation of any of the above rules.
- Neither the City of San Marcos nor TXST bears any responsibility for personal injuries or property damage inflicted by or on any participants in the parade.
- At the end of the parade, golf carts or people walking must obey the directions of parade personnel. Failure will result in immediate ejection from the parade and prevent future participation in any subsequent parades.
Golf Cart
Participants can request a golf cart when they sign OR they can sign up with a TXST university department-owned golf cart.
- Student organizations can request a golf cart on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- All other participants must walk in the parade.
The driver must be an approved TXST driver who have completed the Golf Cart Canvas Module, and have complete the road test at one of the dates listed below:
- Thursday, October 24, 2024, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
- Friday, October 25, 2024, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
- Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm
Driver must:
- maintain a low speed of no more than 5 mph.
- maintain 15 feet with vehicle and/or people in front, especially if they are walking/marching
- focused on the road and paying attention to parade attendees, especially if small children are present.
- not make sudden starts or stops. Drivers must simply put the vehicle in drive with no pressure on the accelerator pedal.
- Stay within center of the roadway to allow room on all sides for walking participants.
Walking
Participants:
- Must follow the guidelines identified above.
- can sign-up and walk in the parade as a group of individuals.
- must maintain a safe distance away from all vehicles in all directions.
- are advised to physically hand items to parade watchers. Throwing items is not advisable or recommended to prevent harm or injury to self or parade watchers.
- cannot run across and/or in front of vehicles.
- Need to stay on a consistent side and path on street as they are walking.
