Mathworks To Hold Junior Summer Math Camp In Round Rock

 

For the past 17 years, Mathworks at Texas State has held a day camp math program in San Marcos, serving close to 200 students each summer.  This coming June, Mathworks is taking its tried and true model north to Round Rock.  The Junior Summer Math Camp (JSMC) engages students to do in-depth math in fun and challenging ways.  Participation in the program is correlated with statistically significant gains in algebra readiness, as measured by the Orleans-Hanna Algebra Prognosis.  Students experience the joys of mathematical discovery while also building a strong foundation for the coming school year.  Alumni of the JSMC have said things such as, "Instead of learning the answer, I have learned why that answer is the answer" and "The program changed my perspective towards math.  I used to hate math because it was my worst subject...now I actually enjoy math!" 

 

The new JSMC will be held at the Texas State University Round Rock campus, which is located off of Exit 256 on I-35 northbound.  This north Austin camp site will offer Levels 1-3 of the math camp, with each level enrolling up to 20 students.  The levels are best suited for students currently in grades 3-6.  Experienced master teachers who have taught at the JSMC in San Marcos will be teaching at this new Round Rock location.  All interested students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible due to the limited number of spots.
