Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month began in 1986 as Mathematics Awareness Week, proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan, to promote enrollment in mathematics programs. In 1999, it expanded to a full month to further encourage public interest and appreciation for mathematics and statistics.

The month-long celebration aims to highlight the importance of math and statistics in various aspects of society, including STEM fields, public health, and other areas where math plays a crucial role.

Texas State University has a long history of celebrating Math Awareness Month.  Represented at the event are faculty, staff, and students from Texas State as well as the director of Mathworks.  We kicked off the month of activities as the Mayor of San Marcos read a proclamation that too effect on April 1.

A link to the video of the event.  Our portion starts around 3 minutes and 30 seconds in.
