Jeff and Gail Kodosky Pledge $1.5M to establish the Kodosky Foundation Mathworks Endowment at Texas State University
San Marcos, TX - November 14, 2010
Mathworks, a center for mathematics education at Texas State University - San Marcos, has received a lead endowment pledge from Jeff and Gail Kodosky of Austin.
Mr. Kodosky and his wife announced the gift this past Wednesday during a special reception held at the Tarry House in Austin. The pledge consists of an outright donation of $300,000 to establish the Kodosky Foundation Mathworks Endowment, and a $1.2M challenge match to encourage others to also support the Mathworks endowment campaign. The Mathworks "Legacy Campaign" builds an endowment to permanently sustain the center's core initiatives of summer math programs for K-12 students, teacher training, and math curriculum development.
“Our gift is ultimately an investment in workforce development, and we encourage others in the high-tech community to step forward and join us. Mathworks is a successful initiative that is not only producing students who excel in mathematics, but also raising the bar on math education overall, and this is essential to the future of this region's economy,” said Jeff Kodosky, co-founder of National Instruments and long time member of the Mathworks advisory board.
In addition to thanks to the Kodoskys, Director of Mathworks Dr. Max Warshauer also reflected on the significance of the endowment pledge. "This gift is a challenge to all of us to work together, since this is a matching gift that will encourage others to also participate. The goal is to involve more people, and to build more support for educating our young students in math and science. With this gift, and others yet to come, students will always know that the Mathworks programs at Texas State University will be affordable and open to them regardless of their financial circumstance. These programs are critical in providing all students with the foundation in mathematics that will be needed to make our country a leader in math, science, and technology in the 21st century," said Dr. Warshauer.
