City of San Marcos Celebrates Math Awareness Month
San Marcos, TX - April 5, 2011
The importance of mathematics as the foundation of science, art, technology and 21st century life is celebrated during April, Mathematics Awareness Month. San Marcos city officials and representatives of the internationally renowned Math Department and the Mathworks program of Texas State University gathered to recognize the importance of math education. Texas State's Math Department is home to faculty deeply involved in math research and pedagogy, and includes a newly established Mathematics Education Ph.D. program. Mathworks, a center for mathematics education, conducts programs that engages young students in doing high-level math, including the prestigious Honors Summer Math Camp and Junior Summer Math Camp.

Texas Mathworks is a center for innovation in mathematics education at Texas State University. Our mission is to develop model programs and self-sustaining learning communities that engage Texas K-12 students from all backgrounds in doing mathematics at a high level. Mathworks core programs are the Junior and Honors Summer Math Camps, Teacher Training, and Curriculum Development.
