RGK Foundation Boosts Texas State's Mathworks Endowment

October 7, 2014 - San Marcos, TX

Texas State University has announced a $400,000 pledge from the RGK Foundation to support Mathworks, a center for mathematics education.  This donation will support the Mathworks Legacy Campaign, which is building an endowment to sustain Mathworks as a center of excellence in mathematics education. Funds from the endowment will provide resources to support Mathworks research and research-based programs for students, teachers, and curriculum development.

Each year, Mathworks provides scholarships so that students of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds can attend Mathworks programs.  The Mathworks endowment provides opportunities to K-12 students and support for research linked to the Ph.D. program in Mathematics Education at Texas State University.  The nationally recognized Mathworks summer math programs provide a platform and laboratory for developing and testing innovative ideas in teaching and learning mathematics.

The RGK Foundation’s donation will also help complete the $1.5 million Kodosky Foundation match challenge for the Mathworks Legacy Campaign. The goal of the Legacy Campaign is to raise $6 million, and this newest gift from the RGK Foundation will take the Campaign over the halfway point.

“We are extremely honored to receive this gift from the RGK Foundation. Ronya and George Kozmetsky, founders of the RGK Foundation, provided the first donations that enabled Mathworks to begin its 25-year old Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC), and has continued to be a great partner in providing grant funding for each new Mathworks initiative.  Mathworks, and Texas State University, will use this donation to continually provide mathematical opportunities to young students from across the state, and nation,” said Dr. Max Warshauer, Director of Mathworks and Regents Professor of Mathematics.
