Silicon Labs Supports STEM Learning Opportunities In Summer Math Program
January 29, 2015 – San Marcos
Silicon Labs has pledged its fourth year of support for the Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC) program hosted by Mathworks at Texas State University. Funding will support science and math learning opportunities to students of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds in the six-week residential summer math program. In the HSMC program, students have opportunities to conduct original math and science research mentored by university faculty as well as industry professionals. Last year, Matt Gately, a Digital Design Engineer at SiLabs, mentored a team of three HSMC students on their project, “Improvements In Volumetric 3D Displays”. Their project resulted in a semifinalist award in the prestigious Siemens Competition that included more than 4,000 students from across the nation. SiLab’s funding will also support the entrepreneurship component of the HSMC program, in which teams of students pitch their original business ideas to a panel of judges. Last summer’s panel included executives from Ingram ReadyMix and Barshop & Oles realty.
