Student Workers

Student workers fulfill multiple roles in the Department of Physics.  These individuals usually work directly with faculty on funded research projects.  Student workers can be graduate or undergraduate, work up to 25 hours per week (20 hours per week for international students), and the pay ranges from minimum wage ($7.25 per hour) up to a maximum of $17 per hour.  Individuals interested in this type of employment should follow up directly with faculty they are interested in working with to see if any positions are currently available in that research group.

Graduate Instructional Assistants (GIAs)

Graduate Instructional Assistants (GIAs) are similar to the UGIA position described above but the are for students in the MS - Physics program.  GIAs will teach physics labs as need by the department and are expected to work 20 hours a week.  Graduate students that meet the requirements for employment in the United States and also meet the requirements to be eligible for a graduate assistantship can request a GIA position with the Department of Physics.  There are limited position available so employment is not guaranteed.  Some of the new graduate students will get a GIA offer along with their acceptance into the program and those positions are guaranteed for the first two long semesters.  Summer positions are even more limited and will be selected based on department needs and review of applicants by the Graduate Committee.
