In geography, a waypoint is a reference point helping us identify current location and future destination. As students across campus grow and develop their individual and collective skillsets, their campus employment experiences are both unique to the individual and common among Bobcats. This year’s conference will examine the limitless opportunities presented to student employees across campus as they find their way toward graduation and career launch. 

Dr. Becky Spurlock

Keynote Speaker: 

Dr. Becky Spurlock, Senior Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management 

The University of Texas Permian Basin 

Texas State University Class of 1994 & 1996 

Dr. Becky Spurlock is the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at The University of Texas Permian Basin. Prior to joining UT Permian Basin, she served in several leadership roles at public and private universities in both Texas and Tennessee. As a first-generation college student, she believes in the transformational power of higher education.     

An educator, sought after speaker and leader in her field, she regularly teaches, speaks, and consults on developing community, leadership, management skills and strategies, strategic planning, and assessment. Dr. Spurlock has more than 25 years of experience working on college campuses. A high-energy speaker, Dr. Spurlock is known for her ability to engage audiences, address difficult topics, and connect through humor.   

Dr. Spurlock has a Ph.D in Higher Education Administration from Texas A&M University as well two degrees from Texas State University, a B.S. in Recreational Administration, and an M.Ed in Counseling and Guidance.  In 2017, Dr. Spurlock completed the Management and Leadership Education Program Certificate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. 

Dr. Spurlock has been named as one of the Top 50 Women Leaders in Education by Women We Admire in 2023 and was named a Pillar of the Profession by NASPA in 2022.

TEXAS STATE SASP CONFERENCE

TXST’s Student Academic Support Programs (SASP) Conference brings together hundreds of students and professional staff from across campus who work in academically-focused positions supporting student success. Participants may choose from more than 20 concurrent sessions on educational theory, professional and personal development, and working with a variety of student populations, in addition having the opportunity to present to peers.
