Special Education Minor Checklist

This checklist is for advising purposes for BGS students only.

Consult your undergraduate catalog or official degree audit for degree requirements.

  • Twelve advanced hours in the minor coursework are required for the BGS.
  • A 2.25 cumulative GPA must be maintained in all minor courses.
  • No grade lower than a “C” will be accepted as credit for BGS minors.
  • Course rotation indications are intended to be used for planning purposes and do not guarantee course availability. "F" indicates "fall," "S" indicates "spring," and "Su" indicates "summer" availability.
  • Enrollment in SPED 4374, SPED 4345, and SPED 4340 requires a 2.75 Overall GPA as prerequisites. However, Special Education minors are not held to meeting those requirements. Students should plan ahead to contact the College of Education Advising Center (512.245.3050) prior to registration for these courses to request the appropriate overrides if needed.

  • _____ SPED 3338 - Educating Students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (F, S, SU) (Prerequisites: If SPED 2360 is taken prior to this course, students must have earned a "C" or better. Corequisites: SPED 2360.)
  • _____ SPED 3390 - Assessing Students with Disabilities (F, S) (Prerequisites: SPED 4345 with a grade of “C” or better.)
  • _____ SPED 4340 – Evidence-Based Instructional Practices for Students with Mild or Moderate Disabilities (F, S, SU) (Prerequisite: SPED 2360 with a grade of "C" or better.)
  • _____ SPED 4345 - Teaching Language Arts to Students with Disabilities (F, S, SU) (Prerequisites: SPED 2360 with a grade of "C" or better.)
  • _____ SPED 4374 - Classroom and Behavior Management Strategies for Students with Disabilities (F, S, SU) (Prerequisite: SPED 2360 with a grade of "C" or better.)

  • _____ SPED 4381 - Educating Students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (F, S) (Prerequisites: If SPED 2360 is taken prior to this course, students must have earned a "C" or better. Corequisite: SPED 2360.)
