Bobcat Pride & Tradition

Each year, our Texas State community nominates and selects exceptional student leaders to serve as members of the Homecoming Royalty Court. 

These student leaders serve as role models and exemplify the qualities of student involvement, academic scholarship, leadership, and community service. 

Important Information, Dates and Deadlines

Overview

Candidates can only apply to one category:
- King or Queen 
- Gaillardian. 

Candidates do not have to be a member of an organization.

Candidates must have a letter of recommendation from faculty, staff, or an organization executive member. Applications submitted without a letter of recommendation will not be considered. 

Candidate must comply with the established guidelines.

No late entries will be accepted.

About the Selection Committee

All applications will be read by a selection committee comprised of faculty, staff, and graduate students from various parts of campus. 

The selection committee will determine the Homecoming Court based on the following criteria:

  • Involvement in University activities and organizations
  • Academic pursuits, interest, and achievements
  • Demonstration of leadership skills and abilities
  • Service to the community
  • Thoughtfulness and skill shown in response to questions.

King and Queen

OVERVIEW

Homecoming - King and Queen

Process

The top four (4) King Candidates and top four (4) Queen Candidates will be highlighted during Homecoming Week. 

The two (2) candidates with the most votes will be elected as King/Queen Royalty and revealed at the Homecoming Game Day Halftime Show.

Qualifications

Candidates must:
  • be fully admitted undergraduate students to Texas State University, 
  • have at least a cumulative Texas State GPA of 2.50 (transfer and institutional credits) 
  • have completed a minimum of 72 hours of coursework at Texas State (transfer students must complete at least 36 hours of the minimum 72-hour requirement at Texas State) as of the first class day of fall semester. 

Gaillardian Court

OVERVIEW

TXST Homecoming

Process

The top twelve (12) candidates with the most votes will be elected as Gaillardians.

Candidates are revealed via the @txstinvolvement Instagram account the Friday before homecoming week.

Qualifications

Candidates must:
  • be fully admitted undergraduate students to Texas State University
  • have at least a cumulative Texas State GPA of 2.5 (transfer and institutional credits) 
  • have completed a minimum of 30 hours of coursework at Texas State, but no more than 89 hours as of the first class day of the fall semester.
    • Transfer Students: must complete at least 24 hours of the minimum 30-hour requirement at Texas State.

Dukes & Duchess

OVERVIEW

Homecoming Royalty Court

The Residence Hall Association (RHA) Duke and Duchess will proudly represent the Residential Student Body during Homecoming. 

To be eligible for this esteemed position, students must reside on campus, maintain good standing with the University, and embody the qualities of an inspiring leader. 

As honorary members of the Residence Hall Association, the Duke and Duchess are required to facilitate one community service initiative for the residential student body in the spring semester with the guidance of the RHA Executive board. 

Voting for your favorite candidates will take place from October 21st to 25th. Candidates are also encouraged to campaign during this period. All applicants approved for candidacy must attend the campaign meeting on October 21st (7pm-8pm) to be eligible to campaign for their position.

Process

Students must apply for candidacy via the Residence Hall Association (RHA) site on the Bobcat Organization Hub.

The two candidates (one Duke and one Duchess) who receive the most votes from the residential student body will be elected as the RHA Duke and Duchess.

The elected Duke and Duchess will proudly represent the Residential Student Body at the Homecoming game and other Homecoming events in which RHA participates.

The elected Duke and Duchess will also serve as an honorary member of the Residence Hall Association, and will be required to plan, implement, and execute a community service initiative for the residential student body with the guidance of the RHA executive board.

Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Be fully admitted to Texas State University.
  • Reside in a residence hall or Texas State-Owned residential building.
  • Be in good standing with the university both academically and with university conduct.
  • Embody the qualities of an inspiring leader.
