Being considered a Texas state bobcat goes beyond attending class or wearing TXST apparel- it's about being part of a community that exemplifies academic excellence and fosters strong connections among students. To a bobcat, Texas State is more than a university but a stepping stone to entering the world we are all preparing for. We are creating an environment to be proud of by allowing this university to go beyond the degree but a family. To me being a Texas state bobcat represents opportunity. An opportunity to better oneself and be a part of a society that supports each other regardless of relationship. As a first-generation student in her senior year, I never imagined I would be here today. Texas State has given me the space to grow personally, recognize my interest professionally, and find my overall purpose in life for which I am forever grateful.

To me, being a Texas State Bobcat means a world of opportunity. As a first-generation student with immigrant parents, the thought of attending college often felt out of reach. However, I am proud to be the first in my family to attend a four-year institution. Texas State University has opened doors for me that I never thought possible, offering countless opportunities to grow. Being a Bobcat means engaging in conversations and experiences I would have never imagined. It’s a place where I am not just a student, but a leader, activist, and pillar in the bobcat community. I am actively building my legacy, and every day at Texas State brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and make a lasting impact.

Being a student here is a time when one learns not just from textbooks, but from the rich experiences that shape character, resilience, and a sense of belonging in a world brimming with possibilities. In this melting pot of culture and knowledge, students are not just preparing for careers; they are forging their identities and laying the groundwork for a lifetime of impact.

Being from a town so close to San Marcos, I knew I wanted to stay in the area. Texas State University has given me so many opportunities that have helped me grow as an individual. I don’t believe that I would have found my place anywhere else. To me, being a Texas State Bobcat represents growth and community. This campus provides students with tools to grow into better students, workers in the future, and overall better people. I credit most of my success on campus to the faculty and staff that have made the transition from my teen years into early adulthood so seamless. If I had not chosen Texas State University, I would not be where I am today. Being a bobcat has been the most meaningful journey to me thus far and I would not trade the memories and connections I have made the past three years for anything.

When I think of being a Bobcat I picture growth and community. My freshman year my dad was diagnosed with liver failure and was put on oxygen at all times. Having a dying parent when trying to enter a new phase of life was challenging. At times I felt lost, guilty or even ashamed. I’ve always been more of a loner or one to be focused on the task at hand. But Texas State and the vibrant community it provides has shown me the importance and the value in it. Christian Organizations like FCA and AIA started that fellowship, VocaLibre made a family, and Strutters provided a sisterhood. But all of it exemplified love and community. That’s what a Bobcat is. Bringing out the best in one another, persevering despite anything, and always choosing love. Forming a community that supports you through and through and that helps you overcome anything.

The university’s emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and innovation has shaped my values and leadership style. I take pride in knowing that my actions can impact not only my peers but the broader community, whether through philanthropy, student organizations, or academic achievements. Being a Bobcat means wearing the maroon and gold with pride and knowing that we are all working toward building a better future for ourselves and others.

To me being a Texas State Bobcat means being a part of something greater than yourself. It is about walking around the campus feeling a strong connection to every student and every memory made there. You share the ups and downs with people who are going through the same struggles, there’s this unspoken bond because we’re all in the same boat together. It’s knowing that one day you’ll leave, but Texas State will always be a part of you. It’s the late nights at the library cramming for that exam, the laughter with my friends and sisters, the moments of doubt and pride, all while knowing that no matter what happens, you’ll always be a Bobcat at heart. When you leave, it’ll break your heart just a bit because a piece of yours will always stay.

To me, being a Texas State Bobcat means appreciating the unexpected. Unfortunately, Texas State is underappreciated not only nationally but also within Texas. However, as all Bobcats know, Texas State University is an amazing place with great opportunities. San Marcos is not usually discussed when listing Texas's big cities. To all Bobcats, San Marcos is a second home and is filled with numerous recreational sites. Being a Bobcat means meeting a fellow Bobcat in a random state and having an instant connection. I think that being a Texas State Bobcat is one of the best things to be in life and I am happy that I chose this university every day. I want to play a role in promoting Texas State University nationally and internationally as a Bobcat.

Being a bobcat at Texas State University has allowed me to understand the importance of celebrating the achievements, traditions, and values for something that is greater than myself. When I was accepted into Texas State University, I didn’t know exactly what my place was or how I would fit into such a large university. It didn’t take long for me to recognize the family-like qualities that bobcats embody and how much I felt at home here in San Marcos. Throughout my years here at Texas State, it has become a priority of mine to make sure other students around me also feel this way about the University. Through being a dance major, and a Texas State Strutter, I have gotten to spread bobcat pride to not only other students but to future bobcats as well to continue the legacy of Texas State University.

Being a Bobcat means everything to me, and while I know it sounds cliché, it couldn’t be more true. Coming to Texas State as a transfer student, I was filled with more nerves than I knew how to handle. I was stepping into uncharted territory, uncertain of what to expect, and realistically knew very little about what was ahead. But all my worries lifted the moment I arrived in San Marcos. From day one, I was surrounded by people who were ambitious and driven but also kind and welcoming. My peers genuine and pure-hearted nature made me feel instantly at home. My life seemed to fall into place here at Texas State. It’s where I found my purpose, built lasting friendships, and felt supported in every step of my academic journey. Being a Bobcat has given me more than I could ever repay in this lifetime.

Being a Texas State Bobcat means being part of a community of individuals who come together in various ways to exemplify the greatness of our university. Being accepted to Texas State University has been one of the most significant events in my life. I immigrated to Texas from Ecuador in 2010, and since I only knew Spanish, my first few years in school were challenging. I was not only trying to learn the curriculum but also a new language.
Growing up, my goal was to attend a university where I could obtain a degree. During my senior year of high school, when I was applying to schools, I felt lost and had no idea where to begin. It was my best friend Kristyn who reached out to me and invited me to Bobcat Day with her and her family. That day, I decided that TXST was the place where I belonged.
My first interaction was with a University Ambassador at Bobcat Day; this individual made me feel so welcome and included at TXST, which is why I chose to come here. In my freshman year, I knew I wanted to join the organization that had made me feel so welcome, so I joined University Ambassadors in Fall 2022, and I now serve as the program's President. Being a Bobcat is about welcoming others into our spaces.
Back in Spring of 2023, I got hired to be a part of the Housing and Residential Life experience as a Resident Assistant, this has shown me that being a Bobcat is to exemplify one of the pillars of the department of making everyone feel like they matter and and belong. Being a part of Homecoming Royalty is something I have wanted to be apart of since I got to Texas State, because having a part of one of TXST’s biggest events that exemplifies the importance of being at home at Texas State is something I find so amazing.

Being a Texas State Bobcat means everything to me. These 3 years at TXST have been filled with so many memories that I will hold very close to my heart. But also, during these years I have seen myself flourish and start to become the person that I was created to be. When you go to college you are faced with many different obstacles that create challenges but, being a bobcat at TXST is truly a reward because you become a part of a community of people who help support, guide, and direct you to become the person you want to be and someone that you're proud of. If I went back to the beginning and chose a different route, I truly don’t know what I would’ve done but I know that the path that I ended up on was not a mistake because it led me to being a lifelong Bobcat!
