Connect with a Mentor

Our University Seminar Faculty Mentor Group is comprised of current US 1100 faculty members who contribute to the development and curriculum design of the course.  The faculty mentoring group responsibilities include:

  • mentoring new and continuing faculty, and
  • assisting the Assistance Vice President for Academic Success in:
    • formulating policy, procedures and curriculum;
    • developing course learning outcomes,
    • reviewing US 1100 assessment results, and
    • selecting and/or preparing the course's resource materials.

The Faculty Mentoring Group seeks a broad range of input from all US 1100 faculty.

The word “faculty” in this case means anyone who teaches US 1100, whether their full-time role at the university is “staff” or “faculty.”

The word “experienced” means that someone has experience with the University Seminar program on some level, regardless of the duration of the experience. We believe fresh eyes bring new perspectives and that those perspectives bring value in the same way as those with a long history with the program.

University Seminar Faculty Mentors are selected by the Assistance Vice President for Academic Success on the basis of:

  • commitment to the goals of the program,
  • evidence of their ability to advance those goals, and
  • evidence of teaching effectiveness in University Seminar.

University Seminar Faculty Mentors are selected on a semester-by-semester basis and paid a $400 stipend.

This group will meet at a minimum, once a month.  Each semester, the meetings will be set to accommodate the schedules of the selected mentors.

Criteria for Selection

  • Completed application
  • Taught minimum of 2 years
  • Interest in the development and curriculum design of the course
