Areas of Interest

Polymer Science/Polymer Materials

Research in the Booth Group

My research deals with the synthesis and thermo/mechanical characterization of high performance polymers. These polymers have impact resistance that rivals polycarbonate and are thermally stable to 400°C. Other projects deal with the development of new surface treatments and processing techniques for polymer/clay nanocomposities. The use of liquid or sc-CO2 as a plasticizing agent should lower the processing temperature such that the amount of thermal degradation to the surface modifier used is decreased or eliminated. This would greatly enhance the mechanical properties of the resulting nanocomposities.
