Internships
An internship is required for students majoring in Travel & Tourism or Global Security Studies, but all students have the option to complete an internship for credit (pending Center approval).
IS 4387 is a three credit hour course and requires 150 hours of internship work.
IS 4687 is a six credit hour course and requires 300 hours of internship work.
IS 5387 is a three credit hour course and requires 150 hours of internship work.
It can take some time to set up internships. Students who are interested in completing an internship for course credit should start doing their research early!
Internship Requirements
Undergraduate: An internship is required for students majoring in Travel & Tourism or Global Security Studies, but all students have the option to complete an internship for credit (pending Center approval).
Graduate: Non-thesis students are required to complete IS 5387. Thesis students can take IS 5387 for credit as an elective.
Undergraduate
- Texas State GPA of a 2.75 or higher
- Completion of at least 60 semester hours of coursework.
- IS 4387 requires a minimum of 150 hours of internship work. IS 4687 requires a minimum of 300 hours.
- Both courses require a daily work log & journal, a 15-page organizational research paper, and an evaluation by the internship supervisor.
- Enrollment in an internship course requires approval by the international studies academic program coordinator/center director
Graduate
- Texas State GPA of a 3.2 or higher
- Completion of at least 18 semester hours of coursework.
- IS 5387 requires a minimum of 150 hours of internship work.
- IS 5387 requires a 20-page research paper and an evaluation by the internship supervisor.
- Enrollment in an internship course requires approval by the international studies academic program coordinator/center director
