Focus in this project is on developing wide band-gap inks that can be used to slot-die print continuous pin-hole free perovskite films that when incorporated in devices result in a large PCE and a long lifetime. Study focusses on the
optimization of slot-die coating of various lead (Pb) based hybrid perovskite solutions in ambient conditions and use of scanning probe techniques to study nucleation and growth of the printed films and stability of the cells including halide
segregations. Films are made in the Alex Zakhidov organic semiconductor lab. The lab is furnished with a LC Tech glovebox cluster consisting of a wet glovebox with spin coating
and annealing capabilities for solvent based deposition of organic
semiconductor thin films and a dry glovebox housing a Trovato 300C thermal deposition system used for the deposition of electron and hole transport layers through shadow masks up to 1 square inch and a UV-expoxy dispensing and curing robot to
encapsulate samples and devices. In addition the lab contains an nTact slot die printer for coating of samples up to 4 inch wide in a controlled atmosphere (temperature, pressure, humidity). Specific characterization equipment include
two solar simulator setups, and a setup to measure the external quantum efficiency of the photovoltaic devices and optical detectors. These systems support research on organic semiconductor thin films and devices interesting for
applications in LEDs, displays, solar panels, and electronic devices. Research in this lab relies greatly on characterization equipment available through the SRO including electron microscopy,
EDS, XPS, AFM, XRD, UV/VIS, FTIR, ellipsometry, and various electrical characterization setups including linear 4pp, CV setup, PPMS electrical characterization tool, and the semiconductor parameter analyzer/wafer prober station.
