SYLLABUS POLICY STATEMENTS & STUDENT RESOURCES for ALL COURSES

I. HONOR CODE

To support the goal of maintaining a climate of academic integrity, Texas State University has adopted the Texas State University Honor Code. The Honor Code applies to all academic activities and academic work, whether these take place on-campus, off-campus, or online. Texas State expects students to engage in all academic pursuits in a manner that is beyond reproach. Students found in violation of the Honor Code are subject to disciplinary action.

As members of a community dedicated to learning, inquiry and creation, the students, faculty and administration of our university live by the principles in this Honor Code. These principles require all members of this community to be conscientious, respectful, and honest.

WE ARE CONSCIENTIOUS. We complete our work on time and make every effort to do it right. We come to class and meetings prepared and are willing to demonstrate it. We hold ourselves to doing what is required, embrace rigor, and shun mediocrity, special requests and excuses.

WE ARE RESPECTFUL. We act civilly toward one another and we cooperate with each other. We will strive to create an environment in which people respect and listen to one another, speaking when appropriate, and permitting other people to participate and express their views.

WE ARE HONEST. We do our own work and are honest with one another in all matters. We understand how various acts of dishonesty, like plagiarizing, falsifying data and giving or receiving assistance to which one is not entitled, conflict as much with academic achievement as with the values of honesty and integrity.

II. ACCOMODATION STATEMENT for DIS/ABILITY

If you are a student with a disability who will require an accommodation(s) to participate in this course, please contact the instructor as soon as possible.  You will be asked to provide documentation from the Office of Disability Services.  Failure to contact the instructor in a timely manner may delay your accommodations. III. DIVERSITY CONNECTIONS

Diversity Connections is a resource of the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion that is intended to support and contribute to student success at Texas State. The Connections website include links for student organizations, political affiliation, spiritual and religious affiliation, and specific resources for students of color, student veterans, LGBTQIA students, students with disabilities, international students, and undocumented/DACAmented students.

IV. COUNSELING CENTER & MENTAL HEALTH

Minds Matter is a university resource page with a broad range of support services and information for caring for yourself and each other. Our Counseling Center services include brief individual, group, and couples counseling, consultation and crisis response, and workshops about coping with stress and other mental health topics.  Counseling Center services are free, confidential, and provided by trained professionals to currently enrolled Texas State students while classes are in session. Please see the Counseling Center website for special programs, services, resources, and crisis information.

V. SEXUAL ASSAULT RESOURCES and SEXUAL MISCOUNDUCT (TITLE IX) 

Any person of any sex, race, ability, gender, gender identity, and gender expression can experience sexual assault. The university’s Sexual Assault Resources page provides information and resource contacts.

Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 (Title IX) prohibits sexual discrimination in federally funded educational programs or activities. Under Title IX individuals are protected against discrimination based on sex. Individuals can file a report of sexual misconduct.  Note: faculty who receive a report of sexual misconduct are required to report the incident to the Title IX Officer. The following types of incidents are included:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Dating Violence
  • Stalking
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Domestic Violence
  • Sexual Exploitation
  • Sexual Intimidation (Cyber-stalking, Indecent Exposure, etc.)

VI. NEW STUDENT INFORMATION
