REACH Project

The Bobcats REACH (Response, Education, Awareness, Care, and Healing) Project exists to meet the specific campus needs of survivors of dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking at Texas State University (TXST). Read below for more about our Project Vision and Goals.

Help is Available

Bilingual Sexual Assault Victim Advocate

We are proud to partner with local victim services provider, Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC) to support the survivors of TXST. Through our partnership, a HCWC Bilingual Sexual Assault Advocate, Heidy Cortez, currently provides free and confidential advocacy services on Mondays from 10am-2pm. The campus community may visit Heidy at the Community Counseling and Wellness Center (CCWC) located on the 1st floor of the Education Building

Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are encouraged. Heidy may also be reached at (512) 396-3404 to set up an appointment or virtual visit. Services are available in English or Spanish. 

If you are experiencing relationship violence and need assistance outside of these hours, please call Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center HELPLine 24/7 at 512-396-4357. TXST students experiencing dating violence may continue to receive HCWC services virtually, in-person, or over the phone from trained advocates and counselors off-campus. Additionally, on-campus resources include the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IXCounseling CenterStudent Health Center, and University Police Department.

Training and Education are Available

Training is available upon request if you are a TXST partner or professional seeking support and information on domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking awareness, resources, or response. Education is available upon request if you are from the general TXST campus community and would like an informational or interactive training for your group to learn more about domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Email your request and include date, time, and preferred format in person or virtual. 


REACH Project Vision and Goals

Goal 1: Establish a CCR team comprising departments and offices on- and off- campus to support survivors in the TXST community and increase partners’ awareness of available resources, streamline referrals for survivors, and coalesce around the mission to enhance support for survivors. 

Goal 2: Establish an on-campus site to provide confidential and trauma-informed direct survivor services to support survivors of interpersonal violence. 

Goal 3: Organize expanded efforts and design additional programing around prevention, education, and awareness of dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Goal 4: Provide continuous in-depth trauma-informed trainings to campus first responders and members involved the disciplinary process on how to respond to and support survivors of dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
