Thoughts Pg 2

Today's Topic: Things I've learned...

"Rush  hour" in Hà Nội is very different than it is in downtown San Marcos:  https://vietnaminsider.vn/near-downtown-hanoi-residents-take-their-bikes-for-a-walk/

The GRAB driver knows what he is doing in rush hour traffic, he won't hit that motorbike or car that is only inches away (literally), and you will arrive safely at your destination

Humans have peripheral vision for a reason, and it really is in your best interest to use it when you look in all four directions (right, left, forward and backward) while crossing the street in Hà Nội

It's better to try to speak some Vietnamese, and risk getting it wrong, than to speak English and point.

Chopsticks can be your friend; but, you must "become one with the stick"

Taking a picture of the GRAB driver's dashboard statue of Budha (or model car, or whatever he has put there) will not only elicit a friendly ear-to-ear grin and a puffed out prideful chest, it will also start a friendly conversation that will soon resort to using your cell phone voice translator

Life moves slowly in Việt Nam...and that's okay

I must slow down when I walk with my Vietnamese friends, or I will be walking alone

When I open the passenger door to get in, every GRAB driver will reach over and slide the seat all the way back for the long-legged Người Mỹ (American)

GRAB cars and motorbikes can only hit a maximum speed of 40 kph (25 mph) when traveling the streets of Hà Nội

It's hard to keep up with a blog when you are busy enjoying life
