Del Valle ISD-Texas State University Partnership in Educational Leadership

The DVISD-Texas State partnership provides innovative leadership development by bringing aspiring principals and teacher leaders together for collaborative learning that exemplifies the importance of building strategic alliances to support school improvement. Course instructors include nationally recognized university faculty with expertise in principal and instructional leadership, culturally responsive teaching and leading, community engagement, multi-sector partnerships, and innovative curriculum development.  Participants in this cohort must be current employees of the Del Valle ISD.

Format

One cohort offered on-site in the Del Valle ISD. Classes begin Summer 2014 and conclude with the Spring 2016 semester (2 years). Classes meet 2 evenings per week in the Fall and Spring semesters. In Summer semesters, classes meet 4 days a week for 4 weeks (2 classes per day).

Degrees

Candidates choose either the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification or the M.A. in Educational Leadership – Instructional Leadership. The Instructional Leadership degree is for Teacher Leaders and does not provide administrator certification. It does allow for specialization in an area of curriculum and instruction via 3 cognate courses.

Post-Master’s Principal Certification

This is a non-degree principal certification program for candidates who already have a master’s degree in education or an education related field. The 8 course program (including 2 courses of internship) is offered on the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses. DVISD Employees entering the post-master’s program may take the June 2014 summer classes with the DVISD cohort (contingent on seat availability) and continue all other courses at the Round Rock Campus. For this path, please complete the Apply Texas application for this program (on the Principal Certification page) and the DVISD District Application. On the District Application, please write “post-master’s principal certification.”

DVISD employees who prefer to take this post-master’s program in San Marcos should apply to the University only and take all classes in San Marcos. For this path, please notify Dr. O’Malley.
