Master of Arts in Educational Leadership - Instructional Leadership
A 36 credit hour program, including 18 core hours, 12 hours in an instructional cognate, and 6 hours in an instructional leadership practicum, leading to a Master of Arts degree with a major in Educational Leadership is designed for teachers who want to develop leadership skills and become involved in school leadership activities. This program involves developing a partnership between Texas State University and local districts to facilitate the development of a cohort of teacher leaders who can assume informal and formal leadership positions within the district.
This program concentrates on the teacher as leader, within the classroom, school, and district. There is also an explicit focus on developing teacher leaders who understand cultural responsiveness and equity-oriented practices for the diverse classrooms of Texas. Teachers completing the program will enhance their own teaching within the classroom, develop skills for assisting other teachers, and learn how to become part of collaborative efforts aimed at school/district-wide instructional improvement.
